About Zenji Web Development

Zenji Web Development LLC is a tiny web development, design and engineering business created in 2006 by Ron Whitman, and based in Los Angeles, CA USA. Zenji focuses on all aspects of social and enterprise web applications - from web business model and product planning, to information architecture, user experience, design, development, deployment, marketing and management.

The Zenji team consists of Ron and an ever-changing network of highly-talented design, development, and supporting freelancers. We have a history of working on large-scale social web applications for hire, however we have recently shifted to producing our own social web products such as Commuter Feed and the forthcoming WheresCool.com.

Philosophy

Zenji was formed with the specific goal of creating simple, pragmatic-yet-creative, high-quality web sites and applications. The word “Zenji” means “Zen Master” in Japanese and is an allusion to Robert Pirsig’s notion of Quality in the book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

Zenji is heavily grounded in working with next-generation ideas, art and technology. We specialize in envisioning and solving “big picture” problems, while still focusing heavily in detail. Our project portfolio spans between solving complex engineering challenges and creating creative, fun social experiences and commerce.

Vision

Zenji brings a level of imagination to each project, using solutions and techniques that have yet to be explored while keeping a pragmatic approach to what has, can and should be done to make something work.

Technology

At Zenji, we spend a great deal of effort researching and understanding the latest concepts and technologies.

Zenji prides itself on exclusive use and development of Open Source technology. Recently, we have focused our efforts in Python - the programming language of choice for Google and NASA - and Django, the “web framework for perfectionists with deadlines”. At Zenji Open Projects, we have begun several projects contributed to the open source community.

Ron carefully chooses the best and the brightest fresh contract freelance talent to bring new levels of enthusiasm, intelligence, detail and creativity to our projects - individuals who wish to solve the same problems in a similarly inspired way.
